Insights from Anna Tardos on Implementing the Pikler Approach

In this week’s highlight from our interview with Anna Tardos, daughter of early childhood pioneer Emmi Pikler, Anna shares a surprising and encouraging truth: what it really takes to learn and implement the Pikler approach in a daycare setting.

Each week, we explore a new section of this rich conversation. Today, Anna speaks directly to the heart of adult learning. Real learning, she reminds us, asks us to step outside ourselves and the habits we bring into caregiving. Anna has spent more than forty years observing and supporting the training of new caregivers, and her clarity shows.

Miss Emmy and her colleagues traveled to Budapest to study firsthand. At the Pikler House on Lóczy Street, they met teachers and pedagogues whose knowledge ran deep. Their care was steady and specific. When they spoke about the children, they spoke with warmth and precision. You could see the years of practice in how they moved and listened.

And Remember:

Real learning begins the moment you step outside yourself and see the child as their own unfolding story.
